Complete Degree Requirements

Undergraduate students:
  • Check your Degree Audit or Progress Check in GOLD (‘Academic History’ link on the left-hand side).  Discuss any deficiencies (noted with red ‘X’s) with your College or major department adviser.
  • If you are pursuing a minor, please contact the sponsoring department by the degree candidacy declaration deadline for the quarter in which you are declaring candidacy (click here for deadlines).  If you do not contact the sponsoring department by this deadline, the Office of the Registrar cannot guarantee that your minor will be recognized.  Minors will only be awarded after appropriate documentation from the sponsoring department has been received by the Office of the Registrar.
  • Complete all degree requirements by the official ending date of the UCSB quarter in which you have declared candidacy.  Refer to the Office of the Registrar website for exact dates.  This includes transfer work, Education Abroad, and Incomplete grades.  Coursework required for degree requirements completed after the official ending date of the quarter will render you ineligible for graduation for that quarter.
  • Send official transcripts for any work completed at other institutions to the Office of the Registrar.  This includes UCSB Extension, other UC campuses (and Extension), and Non-UC Study Abroad.  If all coursework completed at other institutions already appears on your New Student Profile or Credit Memo (GOLD; ‘Academic History’ link on the left-hand side); additional official transcripts are not required.  It is your responsibility to submit official transcripts to the Office of the Registrar prior to graduation.  Once your degree is awarded, no further transfer work can be added to your UCSB undergraduate record.
  • All necessary petitions for degree requirements, including Education Abroad and transfer work, must be submitted as soon as possible.  Contact your major department or College office.
  • If you have any questions regarding University or General Education requirements, please contact your College office.
  • If you have any questions regarding major requirements, please contact your major department.
  • If you will not complete all degree requirements by the official ending date of the quarter in which you have declared candidacy, please withdraw your degree candidacy via GOLD.  It is then your responsibility to re-declare candidacy via GOLD for the quarter in which you will complete all degree requirements.
Graduate students:
  • Please refer to the Graduate Division’s website on degree completion.
  • Requirements for Graduate degrees can be found in the UC Santa Barbara General Catalog.
