UCSB does not print a schedule of classes. Below is a list of resources related to your quarterly schedule.

  • Please note regarding courses in the College of Creative Studies:

    The College of Creative Studies offers courses in art, biology, chemistry/biochemistry, computer science, interdisciplinary studies, literature/creative writing, mathematics, music composition, and physics.  There are no letter grades in the College of Creative Studies.  Courses are offered for variable unit credit, 1-6 units, pass/no record (i.e., the course is not recorded on the student's transcript if no units are received).  Four is the number of units normally given in most Creative Studies courses.  CCS course listings are available prior to Pass 1 of registration for the following quarter, at the College of Creative Studies, Bldg. 494, or on the CCS homepage at http://www.ccs.ucsb.edu. Courses are added via GOLD.  Further information about the College, including course listings, detailed course descriptions, and deadlines is available at the College.

Placement Examinations and Pre-Instructional Meetings

• Foreign Language Placement Examinations
  • Preliminary Examinations for Foreign Languages
    • For: All entering new students in the College of Letters and Science who will continue study of a language begun in high school. Students who have already earned college credit in a foreign language should note that regardless of the results of the Foreign Language Placement Examination, credit cannot be granted for any UCSB courses at the same level or a lower level than that already earned at another institution or through Advanced Placement Examination. Students are advised to enroll in language courses immediately since any delay may decrease their proficiency.
    • Prior to the first day of the quarter, contact the appropriate language department to learn the date and location of the examination. Results of the Foreign Language Placement Examination will determine proper placement into language courses at UCSB.

• English Examinations
  • Analytical Writing Placement Examination (AWPE)
• For: Students who have not satisfied the Entry Level Writing requirement prior to enrollment including: students admitted too late to take the Systemwide AWPE, out-of-state students, and transfer students.
• English Language Placement Examination (ELPE)
  • For: All incoming graduate and undergraduate international students for whom English is not their first language.
• UCSB Mathematics Placement Examinations
  • For: Every student intending to enroll in Mathematics 3A or 15 must take the Calculus Placement Test.
• Music Placement Examinations
  • Contact the Music Department at (805) 893 5672.
    • Music Theory/Musicianship Placement Tests. Incoming music majors, whether freshmen or transfers from other institutions or UCSB departments, must take the departmental exam for placement in the theory and musicianship program.
    • Placement Auditions. Placement auditions are given in piano and voice for all students who wish to study privately. Contact the music department for details.
    • CLASS Piano placement audition. All incoming music majors who are not piano majors must take an audition for placement in the class piano sequence. Please contact the music department for further details.

• TEACHING ASSISTANT ORIENTATION
  • Time: Tuesday, September 25, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Campbell Hall.
    • A required program for all first-time Teaching Assistants (TAs), graduate student Readers, and undergraduate Readers at UCSB. The day includes campus speakers, a panel discussion by experienced TAs, and two workshop sessions.
      Workshop topics include: Teaching Problem Solving; Leading Discussion Sections, Grading Student Writing, Introduction for International TAs, Leading Lab Sections, and many more. For further information, visit: http://oic.id.ucsb.edu/ta-training-programs/ta-orientation
