Complete Degree Requirements

Undergraduate students:

  • Run a Major and GE Progress Check in GOLD (‘Major and GE Progress Checks' under 'Progress' tab at the top). Discuss any deficiencies (noted with red ‘X’s) with College or major department advisers.
  • Pursuing a minor? Contact the sponsoring department by the degree candidacy declaration deadline for the quarter in which candidacy has been declared. The Office of the Registrar cannot guarantee the minor will be recognized if the minor department is not notified. Minors will only be awarded after appropriate documentation from the sponsoring department has been received by the Office of the Registrar.
    • Minor requirements can be found in the UCSB General Catalog or by contacting the sponsoring department.
  • Complete all degree requirements, including Incomplete grades, by the official ending date of the UCSB quarter in which candidacy has been declared. Refer to the Office of the Registrar website for exact dates.
  • Send official transcripts for any work completed at other institutions to the Office of Admissions. This includes UCSB Professional and Continuing Education (formerly UCSB Extension), other UC campuses, and Non-UC Study Abroad.  If all coursework completed at other institutions already appears on your New Student Profile or Credit Memo in GOLD ('Major and GE Progress Checks' under 'Progress' tab at the top) additional official transcripts are not required. It is the student’s responsibility to submit official transcripts to the Office of the Admissions prior to graduation. Once a degree is awarded, no further transfer work can be added to the UCSB undergraduate record.
  • All necessary petitions for degree requirements, including Education Abroad and transfer work, must be submitted as soon as possible. Students must contact their major department or College office to request petitions.
  • All questions regarding University or General Education requirements should be directed to the student’s College advising office.
  • Questions regarding major requirements should be directed to the student’s major department.
  • Requirements for Undergraduate degrees can be found in the UC Santa Barbara General Catalog.
  • Complete the UCSB Graduating Senior Survey.
  • Students who will not complete all degree requirements by the official ending date of the quarter in which candidacy has been declared must withdraw their degree candidacy via GOLD.  It is the student’s responsibility to re-declare candidacy via GOLD for the quarter in which all degree requirements will be completed.

Closure of the Student Record

The student record is closed to changes once a degree has been finalized. Degree finalization typically occurs 6-12 weeks after the end of the quarter in which the degree was awarded.

The student record is closed to revisions in enrollment, grading, and academic actions upon finalization of a degree. Students are responsible for requesting review of their record prior to finalization of their degree.

Changes requested by an individual after finalization of a degree are considered by the Office of the Registrar only under extraordinary circumstances. Supporting documentation is required.

Please contact the Office of the Registrar if you have any questions.
